Miss Maud's Folly

Miss Maud's Folly perform a blend of gypsy, jazz and folk noir tunes, full of beautiful -and occasionally quite dark - imagery and delightful instrumental arrangements. Angie Kirby has a memorable voice straight out of a Paris night club and with multi intrumentalists behind her Miss Maud's Folly have a full gypsy-folk based sound with accordion, glockenpiel, cello, double bass, flute, guitar, sax and piano.

From raucous, breakneck-paced gypsy tunes to delicate Spanish lullabies, velvety jazz influenced numbers to lolloping honky-tonk saloon music – the band delights and excites audiences every time they perform. Whether they appear at folk clubs, jazz clubs or other quality live music venues, the band always bringing a new sound but never seem out of place.

After a string of self produced and rapidly sold EPs this Cardiff based seven piece have just released their debut album, Fall Down, and will be touring with it in the Spring of 2014. They will also be available for festivals throughout the summer

Miss Maud's Folly excited both of us at Doddnaze as soon as we heard them - the sound of a band who will become better known because everywhere they go people will also fall for them.

They've already drawn praise from audiences, radio, local media, various internet sites and have a growing popularity in Paris, London, Barcelona and Vienna.

Band members:

Angie Kirby – vocals, guitar. Singer/songwriter Angie fronts the band with her stunning voice and seductive cabaret-noire stylings. She has been playing and writing songs since she was a teenager, often unveiling dark and mischievous story-telling lyrics hidden within the music.
Eloise Nancie Gynn – cello, flute, backing vocals is also a talented classical composer
Sion Trefor – piano, electric guitar, glockenspiel ...  co-writes some of the tunes. An excellent arranger who is also a music producer and composer for TV and film.

Casper Hoedemaekers – double bass player the band found plucking away on the London jazz scene
Will Mepham – accordion,
musical ingenuity and sweet eccentricity in equal stock
Donal Whelan – saxophone and sought after mastering engineer
Iolo Whelan – drums. Iolo is well known as drummer with several bands on the folk circuit, including Jamie Smith's Mabon
